Eons ago we survived because we were tough, fast and strong. We ate when the food was available, whether hunted or gathered, and we lived off our reserves when our nourishment was very sparse. We were in tune with nature, we were part of nature. We didn’t have pop, teas, coffees and sugars for quick energy but we had clean water, and we drunk water. Today with the noise of daily living we have learned to simply overlook the basics of our existence and ignore the body’s many cries for water.
An epidemic of chronic dehydration is growing. Many suffer from it but are simply unaware of the symptoms.
The major symptoms of dehydration easy to recognize are thirst, dry skin, dark colored, skimpy urine and fatigue. There are more, less known and commonly overlooked:
- Digestive disturbances: heartburn and constipation
- Dry mouth
- Tired or sleepy
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Few or no tear
- Urinary tract infections
- Autoimmune diseases such as chronic fatigue syndrome and multiple sclerosis
- Premature aging
- High cholesterol
- Weight gain
Do you exhibit one or several of these symptoms?
Are you simply dehydrated?
As an environmental counselor and a certified nutritionist, it is my job to understand and advise on lifestyle changes and very often on water consumption. Therefore I had to confront this subject. It wasn’t an easy task to navigate through this most unknown, misunderstood and confusing science. I have spent many hours reading, researching and even using all water types to acquire what I think is a solid understanding of water and the filtration systems available in North America and Europe.
With all the different types of water promoted out there and all the hype that goes with each one, many consumers give up on this subject and settle on some systems that are not necessarily the best or most effective systems.
In the next e-mail, I will talk more about types of water, their benefits and how they are derived. The importance of water cannot be overlooked. Therefore I would like to make a difference by sharing this knowledge with you. There are more options than simply tap versus bottle when it comes to water.
I am looking forward to sharing my knowledge with you.
